The Alex Clarke Quintet with special guest Alex Garnett

A winner of the ‘Rising Star Category’ in the 2019 British Jazz Awards Alex Clarke is one of the most in demand saxophonists on the U.K jazz scene, Alex has a style and sound steeped in the tradition of swing and bebop, inspired by the likes of Cannonball Adderley and Phil Woods. Tonight’s performance at The Bonded Warehouse features music inspired by the double tenor quintets of Ronnie Scott/Tubby Hayes, Gene Ammons/Sonny Stitt, as well as Joshua Redman & Eric Alexander. Alex will be joined by the highly esteemed tenor saxophonist Alex Garnett. Alex Clarke & Alex Garnett – Saxes, Graham Harvey – piano, James Owston – bass, Steve Brown – drums.

Internationally they have toured, Japan, China and America. Their “electro acoustic” style runs the gamut of emotions with one leg in the realm of ecstasy and the other in calm reflection. Take the sophistication of jazz, the grit of the blues, add a sprinkling of funk and soul, and you have the jazz guitarist B.D. Lenz. A native of New Jersey he’s played guitar since his early teens, and studied with such master’s as Mike Stern, Vic Juris, and Charlie Banacos. Lenz has 13 highly acclaimed recordings which feature greats like Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, along with Will Lee, Joel Rosenblatt, & Mark Egan. Lenz’s music has an immediate accessibility for the listener, solid grooves mixed with the essence of rhythm and blues and the strut of funk. A great evening of joyous music lies ahead don't be disappointed, put it in your diary!!

The Sara Oschlag Band

Danish jazz singer Sara Oschlag, now based in Brighton has gained quite a reptation as an intuitive interpreter of songs in the true jazz tradition whether with her emotive singing or vocalese she has quite rightly been hailed as a musician’s singer due to her wonderful use of dynamics, texture and rhythm. Her honest stage presence, expressive voice and effortless sense of swing have made her a firm favourite with musicians and jazz audiences alike. Definitely gonna be a swinging night!!

Friday 10th January

The Edison Herbert Trio

Edison Herbert tonight makes a welcome return to JABW. A sensitive and melodic musician who plays the guitar from the heart. Herbert, is a skilful improviser who favours a lyrical approach along the lines of Wes Montgomery and George Benson (two of his main influences) and has performed with the latter who after hearing him commented ...“you’re one of the few cats who can make that thing sound so good.” Come along and hear for yourself. Edison was also nominated for the prestigious Hollywood Music Awards in 2023.

The Devon Harrison Quartet

Friday 14th February

Devon is recognised as one of the most versatile and charismatic jazz singers currently performing today. With a rich baritone voice, smooth & seductive in popular ballads but with controlled power and flexibility and a lyricism that really swings in a variety of mid and up-tempo Jazz, Blues and Soul Classics. His artistic influences include among others greats such as; Nat King Cole, Billy Eckstine,  Otis Redding,Sam Cooke, Joe Williams, Luther Vandross, Betty Carter, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme & Johnny Hartman. Devon has performed with many well-known artists including legendary soul singer Eddie Floyd. Devon has continued to work with his own jazz ensembles with residencies at the famous “Jazz after Dark” in Soho, & ‘The Paragon Club’ in Mayfair.Tonight Devon plans to deliver a set for the romantics.

Concerts usually finish just after 10 pm. Access to The Bonded Warehouse is via two short flights of stairs and may not be suitable for those with disabilities. Free parking is available alongside the Bonded Warehouse in Canal Street.

There will be no refreshments served but patrons may bring a moderate amount of refreshments, including alcoholic drinks, for their own consumption during the concert.
